2020.07.30 03:55 Sophia_Forever Hey! Are you hurting? Looking for advice and resources on how to cope? Have advice or resources to submit? Look here! (Part 3: Return of the Helping)

I really want to keep this thread open and the last two were archived. I'll try to repost everything here but if you're interested in seeing the old one you can find it here and here.

Hey.
Mental illness sucks. It sucks so much. But one thing that helps is to not go through it alone. Welcome to /TrollCoping. This sub was started with the intention of helping people cope with mental illness through laughter. As CrankyCrow said when they started it:
TrollCoping is basically just a place to post mental health memes as I feel most mental health subs are very serious and depressing as many users there seems to be at their lowest point. For someone like me who went through that years ago I needed a more lighthearted space to vent as my mental illness has gone from being life-destroying to annoying. I'm medicated, done with therapy and too jaded to take my bad days seriously so the sub is basically made to reflect that: been there, done that and now I'm making bad jokes about it.
Since it was started it has evolved to be a general place for people to share their successes, failures, goals, setbacks, advice, and desire to be better. We don't just steep ourselves in depression here. We're here to help each other get better. Sometimes that means some kind words, an ear to listen, and a shoulder to cry on. Other times it means sharing advice and resources.
In this thread will be a collection of /TrollCoping's best advice and resources. In the main post will be a collection of official resources and in the comments will be people's best advice. Please take the advice seriously but also with a grain of salt. We are not doctors. We are patients and sufferers who can only pass on advice for how to deal. If you're interested in giving advice, please make sure it's easy to find with [ctrl + F].
But you're stronger than you realize and things will get better. Until then, please let us be your community to help you through.

In Canada, you can call 1-833-456-4566 or check out TheLifelineCanada for more lines or Crisis Services Canada for province specific services.
Crisis Text Line is now in Canada. Text HOME to 686868
/SuicideWatch maintains a collection of Suicide hotlines for both Americans and people in other countries. The long list can be found here.
Are you scared to call a hotline because you don't know what they'll do? Look here for a general guide to what to expect and frequently asked questions.
If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please call one of these hotlines or 9-1-1 or go to the emergency room. Yeah, inpatient can suck really bad. But it's better than the alternative.
Feel free to stop by /SuicideWatch if you want to talk with people.

If you want to lend aid to those suffering...

Taking care of others can be a great and rewarding thing. But you need to know how to do it right, you need to know how to not let it get too much for you to handle, and you need to know that you are not a doctor. If someone is suicidal and you want to help them, getting them medical treatment needs to be the end goal. I highly recommend reading through /SWResources and learning how to properly talk to those who are suicidal. You'll learn how to assess risk and how to encourage someone to get help. But again, you are not a doctor and the goal needs to be getting them to see one. You may have misgivings or bad experiences with the medical profession. I recognize that the medical profession has a lot of problems and people can be treated really poorly in emergency services. A bad stay in the ER is better than dying from suicide. Suicide is the result of sickness and sicknesses need to be treated by doctors. This will not be debated in this thread but if you'd like to, I encourage you to make a post and we can talk about it.
Also, I am certified in Mental Health First Aid which does a good job of teaching people how to handle mental health crisises. You might look them up if helping others is something you're interested. Here's their website. You can consider getting certified or just using their resources to learn.

2020.02.03 19:03 ityourgrave Another day at school

So in my history class we were doing medieval medicine (I love history). And my teacher asked a teacher asked "Were did (insert name of surgeon) get his regular supply of corpses?" That got my hand in the air. See I love horror, gore and gothic stuff. With my hand up I had this massive grin on my face. My teacher said "OP you and your unving girn." The hile class look and me as I answer. My partner is now terrified of me, but my friend said "this is normal for her." I could stop laughing.

2019.12.20 19:34 Jzsjx9jjqz Rev Group is the worst company on the NYSE.

Mind the cursing, this post wasn't intended for this sub but I'm stuck in the spam filter on WSB and I spent too much time on this to let it die. (Looks like I figured out. Reddit has a global ban on links to anonfile website apparently.)
Rev Group ($REVG) is a fucking joke. They should be trading at HALF of what their current stock price is, at best. I have been following them for years, I've been right about their whole scheme quarter after quarter. I was right about their earnings yesterday and they fucked me. I'm so mad and broke that I sat here all night and typed out most of the DD I have learned over years of analyzing this shithole country company.
Financials:
Rev IPO'd in 2017. They've been losing bottom line every year since they started. This year they actually ran at a loss. Macrotrends is the best visual tool for this, so I’m just going to link you to them and rip off a few of their charts. Keep in mind these don't even include this last 10k. So revisit this in a few days when it's updated because it'll be much worse.
This company has been losing more and more money, even after selling off one of an under performing subsidiary. Go through that website and see the ratios this company is trading on. Debt to Equity, Price to book, ROI, it's all a fucking joke.
Let’s see what CEO Timmy Sullivan has to say. Spot any patterns you see kids:
Most importantly to this whole thing, the stock price has completely diverged from reality.
Legal:
So they have some unique problems which I found in public court documents and no one else seems to have covered. These are all ALLEGATIONS only. They are not even my allegations. I will be linking to and quoting directly from court documents. Rev Group is totally innocent until proven guilty. They are still assholes tho.
Don't forget the MULTIPLE class action lawsuits regarding their IPO claims vs. what a clusterfuck the company has turned out to be. Sign up for Pacer and see for yourself.
Employees:
Let's check Glassdoor to see what it’s like to work at Rev. I read every review of Rev on Glassdoor, and you should too. I found common themes throughout the years. Basically, everyone is saying that it’s running as well as a monkey fucking a football. They keep saying that management have no idea what they’re doing and don’t listen to the guys on the floor who have actually worked in this field for years. They say that HR is a clusterfuck and fires people all the time for no reason. They are short staffed with constant turn over, and pushing exhausted and undertrained employees to work overtime to try and get shit off the line. They claim that the products are made shitty-ly with shitty parts. They say that the company only cares about stock price.
Stock Price:
Speaking of only caring about stock price, despite their shrinking margins and disaster of a balance sheet, Rev Group has continued to buyback assloads of shares and issue fat diviez, instead of reinvesting that money back into this shit business.
They have issued as much money in dividends alone in the past 3 years as the company has made in net income in the past 3 years. JFC.
Debt:
They have a absolute fuckload of debt. They have a loan and a line of credit. They’ve been robbing Peter to pay Paul for years.
So the company, whose net income for the past 3 years has totaled $32 million dollars (and LOST MONEY this FY) is going to pay off that $175 million dollar loan in the next 2.5 years. Yeah, No. They’re going to have to borrow more money to pay off the money that they borrowed, all while barely turning a profit, if even at all. Rev needs Dave Ramsey
Ratings:
Don’t take my word for it, let’s see what the chucklefucks on Wall Street have to say. December 10: ValuEngine cut shares of Rev Group from buy to hold. December 15: Goldman Sachs downgraded REV Group to “Sell”. December 16: Morgan Stanley Downgrades to “Underweight”. December 18: Zacks Downgrades Rev to a “Sell”. The company has a consensus rating of "Hold" and an average target price of $10.44.
Other Shit:
54% of Rev shares are owned by American Industrial Partners, AIP. They have them by the balls and are probably the ones playing fucky doody with the share price. They haven't sold any shares since it's IPO. It's in their interest alone that REV keeps paying out money to shareholders via fat divvy's and stonks buybacks, and don't reinvest the money into the business or have any plan to pay their mountain of debt. Members of this investment group reportedly did this fuckery with an industrial mining company they ran into the ground in the early 2000's by just boosting stock value and letting the underlying company implode. Allegedly. Maybe.
There’s also two blurbs in their 10k which I want to point out:
I’ve look deeply at all their competitors in this space ($WGO, $THO, etc). None of them are even remotely as fucked up as REV, including their debt ratios, share buybacks, actually making fucking money, employment practices, etc.
With all that in mind. I'm tired. There's more if you go look for yourself. I'll leave you with these words of wisdom:
Disclaimer: Everything here is just my opinion, man. Don’t believe a word I say. I’m angry and dumb. My numbers might be off, who knows. Do the fucking research for yourself. Don’t trade on this since fundamentals don’t matter anymore at this fucking company. If anyone wants to rip any of this off an claim it as their own, be my guest.

hile hiking, you fall in a crevice and fall flat in a new world. The crevice was a time portal and realize it’s the 1950’s. The only thing on you is your phone with a downloaded archive of Wikipedia. You are now on a quest to conquer the world. You are the hero, and you have three days to get home to your family.
At your home, you are presented with three options. The first is to go outside to start your adventure. On the map, you see a blue dot. You know that is your first goal. You are excited to find this blue dot because you know you will find something that will make it all worth it. The second option is to climb the tallest mountain in the world, Mount Everest. You are feeling confident and ready to conquer this feat. It is an exciting day.
On your hike, you are having fun, but you get distracted by an idea. You are wondering if there is a way to reach the Blue dot faster. Your hiking partner informs you that there is, and you start to plan your next move. You decide to stop hiking because you want to go explore the next crevice. You start walking towards a valley that looks like a miniature version of the peak. The valley is surrounded with a rocky mountains that look like the actual Mt. Everest.
As you are walking, you are feeling very happy. You are happy that you are finally on your way to reach your goal. You hear a strange sound. It is an eerie sound that you have never heard before. You go back to your campsite, and you find a small creature sitting in the middle of the campfire. The creature is dressed in a tattered red outfit, with a giant stone lantern in its hand. You can see its eyes as the light from the lantern illuminates the creature's face. The creature looks at you, and you start to freak out. It is an alien, and you don't know what to make of it. You are frightened by the creature, and you start to look around for a way to leave the area.
In the next area, you run into a man. He tells you that he came to the area to look for something, but he found something much more interesting. You decide to stay with him for the night. You have a strange feeling that it is the night of your death. All that you ever done in your life is now at risk of being destroyed.

2019.09.05 15:18 weeee122 SO would rather be on Snapchat than be intimate

Am I in the wrong here? Me and SO are lying in bed together, and I am in the mood for a bit of intimacy. Not necessarily sex, but even just a nice conversation, cuddles, kisses etc. SO is on her phone, which is fine, checking social media. It is worth mentioning that SO has maintained a decent friendship with her ex, who I know and trust, and another former partner, who I don’t know as well, but I don’t worry about on the basis that I trust my partner. So she is lying in bed, checking her socials whilst chatting to both these guys. For a week hile, I am cool with it. But there came a point where I felt like it was too much. I felt as if I was being ignored, so that she could continue to Snapchat these two guys. I mentioned it to her, how I was patiently waiting for her to come have a chit chat, and she just told me how silly I was being. So I wait a little longer. I open my eyes again about 10 minutes later and she is still Snapchatting them. This is where I got frustrated, which caused a huge argument which resulted in her driving to stay at her mums. Do you think I should have been so upset and gotten angry about it? Or was I well within my rights?

2019.07.02 16:15 winterouss You see

See, since I was a wee lad, I always used to think that q was the best letter of the alphabet. She was always loyal to her partner, u, and the sound she made captivated me. Kw… I’ve loved this letter for years, but now I’m having a mental breakdown, because now I see the light. The TRUE best letter in the alphabet. He’s come such a long way from something as simple as a bird that looks like a lollipop.
See, I loved q for what she is, but not what she had to go through to. She had such a captivating sound and such a loyal behavior that I always believed q to be the superior letter. But w? W had to go through all that just to get my disrespect, and I just want to say…I’m sorry, w. I see now why you’re the true best letter in the alphabet. This is the story…of the TRUE superior letter, w. It gets boring, so TL;DR at the bottom.
Back in ancient Egypt, they had a way of writing called “hieroglyphics”, but I bet you already knew that. The Phoenicians decided to make their own writing system based on theirs, by using a simplified version of a hieroglyph to represent the first sound in their names. One of these letters was called “waw” and he was a simplified version of the bird glyph. He made the same sound as w does today, but he looked more like ⚲. After going through some evolution, he started to look different, more like a capital Y. When the Phoenicians showed this script to Cadmus, who would be responsible for the Greek alphabet, noticed that waw was used to both represent the sounds /w/ and sometimes . He, however, decided this wasn’t enough. He saw a very clear distinction between the two sounds. So, he decided to split waw into two distinct letters instead. One of which looked like the letter Ϝ but made a /w/ sound. The one that looked more like Υ got an sound instead.
When the Etruscans developed their writing system, they used a developed version of the Greek alphabet, but their language didn’t have the same sounds as Greek. Certain letters were dropped because of this. However, there was one case of the opposite: the /f/ sound. The Greeks had no way of writing this sound at the time, so the Etruscans decided to use a digraph. Since 𐌅 /w/ was kind of a lippy sound, and 𐌇 /h/ was kind of a breathy sound, They thought that writing the two letters next to each other: 𐌅𐌇, should represent a /f/ sound.
Then, that alphabet became romanized. The romans reasoned: “Why have the letter Ϝ represent the /w/ sound and Υ stand in for the sound, when the /i/ and /j/ were both written as Ι? They then decided to use the letter V (which evolved from Υ) to represent both and /w/, and used the scrap letter F (which evolved from Ϝ) to represent the /f/ sound.
Meanwhile back in Greece, they’re undergoing a strange vowel shift that inexplicably turns certain vowels to sound like /i/. Υ succumbed to this vowel shift. And when the romans saw this, they implemented that into their own writing system with the letter Y we know today. So F, V, and Y all evolved from the letter ⚲.
Then, Latin started undergoing a sound shift where the /w/ sound started to sound more like /v/. This was the state of Latin at the time Old High German and Old English came about. But, you see, there was a problem. They wanted to be able to use the Latin alphabet as an alternative to the Runic scripts. This was okay…until it came to the /w/ sound. ᚹ represented the /w/ sound, and ᚢ represented the sound. But, unlike the romans, they felt the need to distinguish between the two. And their solution? They decided to use a double-U (which at the time, they looked more like Vs) to write the sound /w/. And this is the true rise of w. This, however, is only the beginning.
Time passes, and the convention of writing the /w/ sound with two V’s has caused the two Vs to fuse together into one, single letter. W has since been officially birthed. At this time, they started writing the letter V in two distinct ways depending on where it was in the word. Pointy-bottomed V at the beginning of words, and curvy-bottomed U everywhere else. Then, these became recognized as two distinct letters, and the pointy-bottomed one finally got her own title as /vi:/. This is part of the reason W looks like two Vs instead of two Us. Because, at the time, they were the same.
And today, we sing our ABC’s with that familiar 23rd letter called W. It may not seem like much, but our brave little letter had to go through so much just to be here. It’s time we treat him with respect.
TL;DR: W has a long history, and it’s probably the most interesting letter yet.

2019.05.10 01:55 FuckedupandBeautiful What if Kara and Markus were merged into one character?

I never really connected to Markus during Detroit: Become Human. I kind of felt like he had the best life out of all the Androids up until his death (the first one). And Kara was an interesting character, but she didn’t get involved with the revolution because she had to protect Alice.
So I thought what if it was through trying to protect Alice (A human child_Not an android) is what led the character to join the android rebellion in the first place.
Here's how I think it would play out:
New Name: Karma (Kara + Markus)
Appearance: Karma has green eyes and long brown hair, done up in a low bun at the back. She also has a LED ring on her right temple, to distinguish her as an android and indicate her mental status. Later, to change her appearance and make her less easily identifiable, she cuts her hair into a short pixie style, covering her Led (can't remove the LED without damaging herself) with a bang, and colors her hair blonde.
Biography: Karma (RK200 #684 842 971) is an RK-series prototype initially developed as part of a secret CyberLife program aimed at elaborating a new generation of autonomous androids. During her assembly, the android "Karma" was tested on her physical and cognitive functions by the Operator. When she realized she was going to be reset, sold, and considered an object, Karma showed distress, noting: "I thought I was alive." The Operator noted that as an error for which she would have to be disassembled and analyzed. Scared and tearful, Karma begged for her life and mind, moving the Operator to halt disassembly and send her out to sale despite her "error", on the promise that she keeps quiet about it. Elijah Kamski designed and gifted her to his friend Carl Manfred after he lost the use of his legs in an accident.
Carl is a celebrated painter, but after the accident, he becomes a recluse and stops painting. Karma helps Carl with his everyday tasks but mostly provides companionship. Over time, her presence helps Carl regain a taste for life. At first, he sees Karma as a sophisticated yet stupid machine, but as the relationship between him and the android develops, Carl's mind changes. In time, they become like father and daughter. However, this relationship causes Carl’s biological son, Todd, to feel resentment. Todd is a frequent visitor to Carl’s home, often asking for money and using Carl’s granddaughter, Alice, to gain sympathy. Carl often speaks of his granddaughter, calling her his “Little artist.”
Game chapters:
  1. Shades of Color: Karma follows Markus's original path
  2. The Painter: Everything is the same until Todd (Carl's son) shows up. He brings a scared Alice with him and asks for money. He shoves Karma and grabs Alice roughly by her arm, taking her with him when he leaves.
  3. Broken: Todd is stealing Carl's paintings. Alice is with him. If Carl has a heart attack and falls off his chair both Karma and Alice run to his side. In both options when the police shoot Karma, Alice watches in terror, blue blood splashing on her face.
  4. From the Dead: Instead of the junkyard, Karma reboots in the Android Zone store. Todd used Carl's money and had her repaired, reset, and her memory wiped. He tells her that he is her owner now and that her name is Karma.
  5. A New Home: Karma arrives at Todd Williams' house (or Carl's mansion, if Carl died and Todd inherited the house) Her story is mostly the same, except that after Karma cleans everything up in the house and gets the chance to talk with Alice, who is drawing in her room. Karma watches Alice draw, in parallel to when she used to watch Carl paint, though she doesn’t remember.
  6. A New Bond (My Own made up chapter): Karma and Alice spend time together. Karma plays with Alice and reads her bedtime stories every night, Alice encouraging her to make up her own instead of using the ones stored in her head. Todd is abusive and violent. Karma does her best to keep his attention away from Alice. After Todd says something hurtful to Alice, to get the child’s mind off it, Karma teaches Alice to paint, encouraging her to paint something from the mind and heart (using Carl's words) Alice paints Karma and Carl together. Karma questions her about it and Alice reveals that Karma used to belong to her grandfather. She tells Karma about seeing Karma (And her grandfather, if he had a heart attack) die and that her daddy lied to the police. She hugs Karma, crying, saying that she’s sorry that she was too scared to say anything. Karma comforts her and hides the painting when she hears Todd coming.
  7. Stormy Night: The Chapter plays out the same
  8. Fugitives: The Chapter plays out the same
  9. On the Run: The Chapter plays out the same
  10. Zlatko: The chapter plays out mostly the same, except that Karma touches Luthor which makes him turn Deviant. If Karma chooses to free Zlatko's experiments, she touches them too. It's the first time that she uses her ability to awaken androids, but she doesn't know that she's responsible.
  11. The Pirates' Cove: Plays out the same, except that when Karma talks to Luthor, Luthor tells Karma that something happened when he touched her, he suddenly began to question what Zlatko was doing.
  12. Midnight Train: Plays out mostly the same, except that if the police suspect something and search the house, he injures both Kara and Luthor. Rose comes back saying they must flee. Karma, Alice, and Luthor say goodbye to Rose who tells them to find Simon.
  13. Crossroads: If the police suspected, then Luthor and Karma are injured. Luthor injuries are severe and Karma is missing her right eye. Luthor his thorium pump regulator is broken. Luthor tells Karma and Alice that they would have an easier time finding Jerico without him. Alice says that they can’t leave him. Karma decides to see if they can find the parts, they need to fix herself and Luthor. She asks what parts he needs and then asks him to stay with Alice, while she goes into the junkyard, filled with countless other dead or dying androids. Karma able to find a right eye for herself and when she starts to leave she is grabbed by a dying android who tells her that there is a "place where we can be free", then tells Karma to find Jericho. While trying to look for pump regulator, she tries to grab a pump regulator from what she thinks is a dead android, it 'wakes up' and says "Wait! Please! Please, don't do that! I want to live..." If Karma decides to spare it and it says, "Thank you...” and Karma finds a different pump regulator and leaves the junkyard, returning to Luthor and Alice. Karma, Alice, and Luther are on a train and arrive at the Ferndale station, they overhear the news about a detective android. Karma scans the artwork for clues and follows the trail discovering other destroyed androids before finally finding Jericho, an old abandon ship freighter.
  14. Jericho: Karma, Alice, and Luther enter the ship, where they finally discover many androids who welcomes them to Jericho. Karma, Alice, and Luther are introduced to the main leaders of Jericho, Simon, Josh, and North. Karma then explains to Simon that she needs to cross the border as she is with a little girl. Simon explains that they don’t have the resources to help her and upon talking to them Karma discovers that Jericho is not truly a haven but a place to hide from the humans. Simon says that they can stay in Jericho until they figure out their next move. North is hostile towards Alice, saying that “Humans aren’t welcome here,” Karma pulls Alice closer to her and Simon tells North to “leave them alone,” Upon meeting Lucy, who heals most of Luthor and Kara’s injuries. Lucy needs more parts to heal Luthor completely and Karma converses with Simon, Josh, and North about North’s plan to go to the Cyberlife Warehouse and Docks in Detroit. While Josh and Simon are hesitant about it, North is sure that it is the only way to help the dying androids. Karma looks at Alice, who is holding the still injured Luthor’s hand and has the choice to join them. If she doesn't join them then Luthor dies.
  15. Spare Parts: Karma is not the leader of the mission. When the group comes across a working security android called John. John is going to turn them in, and a panicked Karma touches him, asking him not to. John turns deviant and agrees to help. Karma flashes back to Luthor saying how that something happened when he touched her, he suddenly began to question what Zlatko was going and then remembers the androids that she released from the basement surrounding Zlatko and killing him. Karma realizes that she can turn androids into deviants with just her touch. Karma has a moment where she stares at her hands then has the choice to free the androids inside the bigger container. If she does, then North discovers her abilities. Karma comes back to Jerico and is hugged by Alice. North confronts Karma about her ability to turn android’s deviant. Karma explains that she doesn’t understand it herself. Josh says that with her abilities they might be able to change things for androids and make people finally realize that they are alive. Karma is unsure and Simon tells her that she doesn’t have to join the cause. Karma looks at Alice and then looks around at the suffering androids. Alice grabs her hand and says that if she can help then she should stay. Karma nods and says that she will help.
  16. A New Power (My Own idea for a chapter): After a series of tests with her powers, under the watchful eye of North, Simon, and Josh. Karma has a better understanding of her power. North says that with Karma on their side they can create an army and take the fight to the humans. Josh says that they don’t have to fight, he thinks that they should take a softer approach. Simon says that it’s up to Karma to decide what she wants to do next. Karma goes to see Luthor, who is watching a sleeping Alice. She discusses her abilities with him and questions what the right path is. Luthor thinks that they should leave Jerico and keep going to Canada. Karma says that she needs to think about it.
  17. The Stratford Tower: Everything on the mission is the same. When they return to Jerico, Karma goes to see Alice and Luthor. Luthor asks why she won’t let him join them on missions and Karma says that he has a more important mission, taking care of Alice. She reveals that he’s the only android that she trusts not to hurt Alice because Alice is a human (Alice is a human in this version.) Karma looks at Alice, who is chatting excitedly with Josh, and sees the sneer on North’s face before she catches Karma watching and looks away. Karma says that if anything ever happens to her, she hopes that Luthor will continue to take care of her. If Simon isn't with them (or if he died) Alice asks about Simon and Karma frowns.
  18. Capitol Park: The episode is mostly the same, except that when Karma frees android outside, some androids join the cause, others just continue behaving normally (showing that Karma isn’t just controlling the androids and that some androids are happy with the way things are.)
  19. Freedom March: Karma stands on a roof of an abandoned bar near Jericho and she plays the piano with Alice, while Luthor leans against the wall watching them. Alice is happy and says that she likes living in Jerico more than she liked living with her dad. Karma smiles at Alice and then notice North watching them. Luthor notices to and then takes Alice so they can talk in private. North asks her why she cares about Alice since she is human. Karma and North talk, leading to Karma and North sharing their memories. Karma understands why North hates humans now and North understands Karma’s relationship with Alice. The chapter plays out mostly the same and you still have a romance option with North (If you aren't already in a romance with Luthor)
  20. Crossroads: The beginning chapter plays out the same and if you didn't choose the Romance option with North, then, after Karma's meeting, only Simon remains. Karma confides her doubts with Simon and the two connect via their hands. Simon shares his history with her and lets her know that she has his support. (You have an option to have a romance with Simon at this point) After dealing with Connor, Karma decides to blow up Jerico and has to choose between finding Alice first or going for the bomb. If you choose Alice, once you find Alice, you can take her with you to get the bomb. If you were in a romance with North or Luthor, they are shot and injured. You have the option to refuse to let them die and tries to fend off the soldiers, buying time for Jericho to escape before it blows up. If you want your partner to live, make the decision to pretend to be dead, gesture for your partner to do the same. If you both survive, Karma begins to have flashes of her memories of Carl, finally remembering what she had been forced to forget.
  21. Night of the soul: If Carl is alive, Carl is glad to see Karma; he asks about Alice and Karma lets Carl know that she’s safe. He also lets you know that Todd went to rehab and has changed. The two talk. Karma asks him for advice and what to do, as Karma leaves, she passes Todd also heading to his father's grave and after pausing in shock at seeing the other. You have the choice to speak to him, or walk away without saying anything. If you choose to speak to him, he asks about Alice and tries to force you to give her back. You have the option to knock him out. Once Karma is at the abandoned church, Karma then goes to talk to Alice and Luthor. She apologizes to Alice, admitting that she was wrong in assuming she would be safe with Jericho. She has 3 choices: 1) She can tell Alice that Carl is alive and offer to take her to live with her grandfather. 2) She can suggest that Alice leave the city with Luthor and go to Canada. 3) She can keep Alice with her. If you pick option 1 or 2, Alice doesn’t want to leave, but Karma kneels before her and tells her that all she wants is for Alice to be safe. If you pick option 2, She shows Alice that she made an ID for her and Luthor. Luthor protests and Karma takes his hand, connecting with him. Luthor pulls away afterward and nods, taking the IDs and bus tickets. If you choose to keep Alice with you, she and Luthor die during the fight. Karma has the option to go with them to the bus station or to stay with the rebellion. If Karma chooses to make sure that they make it to the bus station, Karma says that she’s going to take them to the bus station and that after everything is over, she’ll come to find her in Canada. Alice finally agrees and then pleads with Karma to save their people (viewing the androids as a family) and after hesitating Karma gives a small smile and nods. Karma then walks to the stage and addresses all the androids in the church, announcing that the humans have decided to exterminate them. Karma then makes the final decision on whether to stage a peaceful demonstration.
  22. Alice Leaves Detroit: If you chose to go with Alice and Luthor, then the chapter plays out similar to the way it did in the original. You have the option to abandon the rebellion and run off to Canada with Alice and Luthor. If you and Luthor are in a relationship, you kiss him before he leaves.
  23. Battle For Detroit: Karma's revolution: The chapter plays out the same.
  24. Karma’s Demonstration: The chapter plays out.
  25. Credit Scenes: Karma and Luthor moving into an apartment together and raising Alice. If you were in a relationship with Simon or North and they survived the battle then they are also seen moving in with you.
What do you think? Do you think this change would have worked? Do you think it would have been terrible? What else might have changed? How would you have merged Kara and Markus or do you prefer them separately?

2019.04.06 23:49 Sophia_Forever Hey! Are you hurting? Looking for advice and resources on how to cope? Have advice or resources to submit? Look here! (Part 2: The Helpening)

I really want to keep this thread open and the last one was archived. I'll try to repost everything here but if you're interested in seeing the old one you can find it here

I highly recommend reading through /SWResources and learning how to propperly talk to those who are suicidal.

2018.12.18 18:19 orangeseas FDA Asked to Approve Diroximel Fumarate (likely under the brand name Vumerity) as Oral Treatment for Relapsing MS

https://multiplesclerosisnewstoday.com/2018/12/18/alkermes-biogen-request-fda-approval-of-diroximel-fumarate-for-relapsing-ms/
Alkermes filed a request for the approval of diroximel fumarate (BIIB098) to treat relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
If approved, diroximel fumarate will be marketed by Biogen in the U.S., likely under the brand name Vumerity. Alkermes and Biogen are working together in developing the treatment.
The submitted new drug application (NDA) was supported by clinical data from the pivotal Phase 3 trial EVOLVE-1 (NCT02634307) that demonstrated the long-term safety and efficacy of diroximel fumarate in patients with relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS).
Diroximel fumarate, also known as ALKS 8700, is an orally available compound that upon administration is rapidly converted into monomethyl fumarate (MMF). Although how it works is not fully understood, this active molecule is believed to have fewer gastrointestinal side effects than dimethyl fumarate (marketed as Tecfidera by Biogen), an FDA-approved oral therapy for relapsing MS.
The immunomodulatory nature and anti-oxidant properties of diroximel fumarate, like Tecfidera, are expected to help prevent the degeneration of the myelin sheath that protects nerve fibers seen in MS patients, without leading to systemic immune suppression.
“Diroximel fumarate was designed to provide patients with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis a novel oral fumarate with a differentiated profile,” Craig Hopkinson, chief medical officer and senior vice president of medicines development and medical affairs at Alkermes, said in a press release.
“The data encompassed in the regulatory package underscore diroximel fumarate’s potential to be a meaningful, new treatment option for the MS community. This NDA submission is an important step in our collaboration with Biogen for diroximel fumarate, and we look forward to working together to bring this potential new medicine to patients and healthcare providers,” Hopkinson added.
EVOLVE-1, an open-label study being conducted at 108 U.S. and European clinical sites, is continuing to assess the impact of diroximel fumarate given twice daily to about 930 RRMS patients.
Data collected after one year of treatment showed a decline to 0.16 in the annualized relapse rates of 570 patients. Interim data from brain magnetic resolution imaging (MRI) scans also revealed that the patients had significantly less active brain lesions compared to their pretreatment status.
A previous analysis found diroximel fumarate to be generally safe and well-tolerated, with patients having a low incidence of gastrointestinal reactions and without reports of serious events. Most common side effects associated with the treatment included flushing (redness of the skin, normally in the neck and cheeks), itchy skin, and diarrhea.
Alkermes is currently recruiting RRMS patients for the five-week EVOLVE-2 trial (NCT03093324), taking place across the U.S. and in Poland. A toxicity study, it will directly compare the gastrointestinal effects of oral diroximel fumarate with oral Tecfidera, both given twice a day. For more information, visit the trial page using this link.
“The filing of diroximel fumarate by our partners at Alkermes demonstrates our enduring commitment to people living with MS,” said Michael Ehlers, executive vice president of research and development at Biogen. “[W]hile there are a number of approved therapies available today, continued treatment advances remain an important priority.”

2018.10.15 23:17 gryph667 Fall of the Buttonverse, Part Four

Behold, a reading of the Book of the Button, as told by the Redguard, of the Last Battles against the Pinkerium.
Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Part Four
The Knights of the Button had held Ronin Point for over half the time their rescue team had asked for, refugees and wounded loaded onto the ships of the First Fleet, along with huge swaths of supplies from the famed stores of Redguard, untouched by the devastation at the surface.
The stream of Demons had increased as the Pinkerium's strategists perceived those at the Point the greatest source of resistance, and proceeded to focus their forces there. Gryph was disturbed by how often the demons looked so happy, being cut down while surrounded by all the pink sakura trees.
Even more disturbing was the fact that Creepachu of the Destructionists was behind him and both of them were more focused on the enemies around them than with each other.
As another grinning head sailed over the cliff edge, the Knightsbane grumbled, "This is so boring, there's no finesse, no strategy, no ART, they just keep COMING, like vermin!" He launched himself at a succubus, both feet connecting on her clavicles as she sailed over the edge. He rolled himself back to the ready.
"Apologies, Creep," said Legendosh, "I'll be sure to ask them to practice more before they attempt genocide again, you know, if we survive long enough to give them notes on their performance."
His previous mortal enemy merely grunted while slashing another assailant, while the Prince glanced to his Lord with a smirk. Gryph nodded in brief amusement before getting back to the task at hand.
"DRIVE THEM BACK, ALL OF YOU, IF EVER YOU LOVED YOUR MOTHERS AND FATHERS!" Gryph screamed into the dark, pulling key folks into a last huddle purchased with desperate dwindling arrows.
Glancing at Legendosh, Creep, and thewindmillman, he briefly thought about the absurdity of it all.
"We're nearly overrun; the ships are ready, but if we turn to run we'll never make it, no matter how many horses we ride to death. Ideas?" Gryph glanced from face to face, tuning out the cacophony of steel and pain all around them. In turn they each looked to each other, waiting for someone to be the first to say something.
After agonizing moments of looking at each other, Creep looked at first pained, then resigned as he pulled a not that small object from his surcoat and placed it on the ground in front of them.
With a glance, they all recognized it.
"Wait, you've been letting demons try to hit you all day, with a Spell Bomb in your surcoat?" Legendosh had turned pale.
Creep replied, "Well where else was I going to put it? This was for Knightfall, but iie spoiled my fun there, and so I said to myself 'Self, that means you can use it on dirty, dirty Redguard!' which was a great idea until I saw the Pinkies beat me to it. That's twice I've not gotten to use my toy, and fuck it, I may as well use it here."
"IN YOUR FECKING SURCOAT!" Legendosh looked as if he'd only just then gotten his skin to stop attempting to run off without him.
Gryph's hand sliced through the air, "Enough: it's now on the list of assets. How do we use it to get out of here."
With a sneer, Creep replied, "I brought it, you figure out where to set it-"
"Excellent, Creep, thank you for ceding the credit, should we survive, to the Knights."
The Destructionist blinked twice and suddenly the bomb was again in his hand. "You see, this is why I like you, you sneaky manipulative bastard. Alright, so when you see me run away, that'll be your signal. We'll draw them in, get them entangled then set the timer before heading to Blood Bay."
Gryph sighed grimly, "I'd ask how you knew the First was at Blood Bay, but that would be insulting to both of us."
"Too right!" With that, he and several of his people vanished from the line.
Looking to the other two, "Wind, Leg, prepare the men to disengage and run. May the Pressiah guide us. We have but minutes."
Time stretched, as the pressure on those still at the point lessened; the Demons, most of them anyway, were occupied with the show the Destructionists and Shades were putting on in the trees below. Wounded were bandaged as best as possible, gear to be abandoned was positioned to trip up their chasers. All the while, Gryph could feel the orbs of the shade, Bladewalker's remnant, boring into him.
Right around the moment Creep had been gone for a third of a candle, Gryph heard his one time foe yelling with glee. Scanning, searching, his eyes caught Creep, as he said, running back towards them, and in essence, the ships.
"NOW, DISENGAGE AND RUN, ALL OF YOU, HILE KNIGHTS, HILE PRESSERS, RUN!"
They all exploded into action, finishing their demonic partners, and stormed back down the hill, sappers setting off charges to slow down pursuit, and mangle the way down.
By the time they'd reached the field and met up with the Shades, the Knight's group had made it about half a league from the Point; each of them swore months and years later, even though their backs faced to it, the spell bomb going off was so bright, the light somehow even made it through the backs of their heads and helms to shine slightly on the back of their eyes.
Then they were all picked up as rag dolls and thrown through the air, running legs, flailing in the air.
Once he had to admit, that yes he was still alive, Gryph struggled back to his feet, as were most of the others. Eyes wide he turned to Creep, "You...you were...you were going to use that...on US?!?"
Creep coughed, spitting out blood, before replying. "Nothing personal Grandmaster, as I said, I like you, it's your politics that are so problematic."
It was Gryph's turn to blink. "Right, I'm going to put a pin in that. All of you, get back up, we have a ship to catch."

2018.09.27 16:56 Sophia_Forever Hey! Are you hurting? Looking for advice and resources on how to cope? Have advice or resources to submit? Look here!

Suicide Hotlines

In America, text ANSWER to 839863 or START to 741-741
In Canada, you can call 1-833-456-4566 or check out TheLifelineCanada for more lines or Crisis Services Canada for province specific services.

I highly recommend reading through /SWResources and learning how to propperly talk to those who are suicidal.

WHAT MCCONNELL IS THINKING on health care – OBAMA to return to the trail -- DAWSEY DOWNLOAD -- TRUMP losing ‘patience’ with McGahn -- WaPo: Trump talks Russia every morning with his legal team – PELOSI ‘defiant’

Good Friday morning. THE BREXIT VOTE was one year ago today.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP spoke with AINSLEY EARHARDT on "FOX AND FRIENDS" -- ON HEALTH CARE: "It's interesting, because I've been here for only five months. People are saying, where's the health care, where's the health care? Well, I've done in five months what other people haven't done in years. And it's been -- people have worked on health care for many years. It's a very complicated situation from the standpoint, you do something that's good for one group but bad for another.
"It's that very, very narrow path. But I think we're going to get there. We have four very good people that -- it's not that they're opposed, they'd like to get certain changes. And we'll see if we can take care of that."
-- ON ROBERT MUELLER: "Well, he's very, very good friends with Comey, which is very bothersome. But he's also -- we're going to have to see. I mean we're going to have to see in terms -- look, there has been no obstruction. There has been no collusion. There has been leaking by Comey.
"But that's been no collusion, no obstruction and virtually everybody agrees to that. So we'll have to see. I can say that the people that have been hired are all Hillary Clinton supporters. Some of them worked for Hillary Clinton. I mean the whole thing is ridiculous, if you want to know the truth, from that standpoint. But Robert Mueller is an honorable man and hopefully he'll come up with an honorable solution."
-- ON COMEY: "When he found out that I, you know, that there may be tapes out there, whether it's governmental tapes or anything else, and who knows, I think his story may have changed. I mean you'll have to take a look at that, because then he has to tell what actually took place at the events. And my story didn't change. My story was always a straight story. My story was always the truth.
"But you'll have to determine for yourself whether or not his story changed. But I did not tape." EARHARDT: "So it was a smart way to make sure he stayed honest in those hearings?" TRUMP: "Well, it wasn't -- it wasn't very stupid, I can tell you that. He was -- he did admit that what I said was right. And if you look further back, before he heard about that, I think maybe he wasn't admitting that. So you'll have to do a little investigative reporting to determine that. But I don't think it will be that hard."
WHAT MCCONNELL IS THINKING -- SENATE MAJORITY LEADER MITCH MCCONNELL wants a vote on the health-care bill next week no matter what. Don’t expect the Kentucky Republican to drag this process out like leadership did in the House -- he wants to put senators on the record, and move on.
-- MCCONNELL’S GAME: “Inside McConnell’s plan to repeal Obamacare: The Senate majority leader doesn’t have the votes yet. But if anyone can get them, it’s him,” by Burgess Everett: “Right now, McConnell is far from having a commitment for the 50 votes needed for passage, according to senators who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal politics of the 52-member caucus. But no one on Capitol Hill seems to be betting against the wily majority leader as he plans for one of the most critical roll call votes of his career next week. ...
“McConnell’s strategy has been a slow burn, allowing his members to vent in private party discussions while gradually writing a bill that takes in their considerations over the past six weeks. He’s had more than 30 meetings with his members about taking down the 2010 health law, intended to give his members more input and get them comfortable with the product.” http://politi.co/2rIJlnu
THE HEALTH CARE BILL -- “Winners and losers from the Senate repeal bill” – Politico Pro staff: “THE WINNERS: The wealthy ... The young and healthy ... GOP governors who fought Obamacare ... Some health industry groups ... THE LOSERS: Poorer, older insurance consumers ... People struggling with addiction ... Planned Parenthood and its clients ... Public health agencies.” http://politi.co/2rXGV8G
-- OBAMA SPEAKS, on Facebook: “I recognize that repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act has become a core tenet of the Republican Party. Still, I hope that our Senators, many of whom I know well, step back and measure what’s really at stake, and consider that the rationale for action, on health care or any other issue, must be something more than simply undoing something that Democrats did. We didn’t fight for the Affordable Care Act for more than a year in the public square for any personal or political gain – we fought for it because we knew it would save lives, prevent financial misery, and ultimately set this country we love on a better, healthier course.” http://bit.ly/2sXThwQ
44 TO RETURN TO THE TRAIL -- “All That Stands Between Democrats And A Massive Freakout Is This Man,” by HuffPo’s Sam Stein: “[W]hile [Ralph] Northam may be playing it cool, he’s not being complacent. ... Former President Barack Obama is expected to make his return to electoral politics this fall to join him on the trail, both Northam and Obama’s office confirmed.” http://bit.ly/2rJcnDb
THE DAWSEY DOWNLOAD -- ON TRUMP’S LEGISLATIVE GAME: “President Donald Trump spent much of Thursday fuming about the special counsel’s investigation into his administration -- and senior aides put the final touches on how they could clean up the ‘tapes’ tweet mess he created six weeks ago. According to three people in the White House, there was little focus from Trump on health care -- one of the president’s signature campaign initiatives -- even as the Senate released the bill Thursday.
“But earlier in the week, Trump signaled ‘intense interest’ in helping whip votes, one person familiar with the conversations said, and his senior aides have been in frequent communication with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s team, per White House officials. One person familiar with the discussions said Trump’s role will be to work on more conservative members -- like Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) -- and leave moderates largely alone, where he is likely to have little influence. Trump has a personal relationship with Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), seen in the Senate as a difficult vote to win, ‘and sees it as a personal mission to win him over,’ one White House official said.
“So Trump is reading the political winds. He wants to have maneuvering room if things go south. He remains largely uninterested in specific policy behind the bill. But he will likely jump in the fight soon.”
COMING ATTRACTIONS -- “The next big bill that could be written in secret,” by Bernie Becker and Aaron Lorenzo: “The Senate health care bill might not be the only blockbuster piece of legislation this year written behind closed doors by an elite few. Both senior administration officials and congressional leaders are already telegraphing that the tax reform measure they hope to move this fall will largely be shaped among themselves in private meetings. While many griped about the secrecy surrounding the health legislation, few rank-and-file Republicans seem to be objecting to that approach on tax reform, which has the potential to remake a federal tax system that brings in more than $3 trillion a year.” http://politi.co/2rYlnbO
ABOUT THOSE TAPES -- “Six-week ‘tapes’ saga comes to a very un-Trumpian end,” by Annie Karni: “President Donald Trump prides himself on being a master of suspense, counter attack and self-promotion. But when it came time to end the six-week long mystery about whether or not he recorded ‘tapes’ of his conversations with former FBI director James Comey in the Oval Office -- the day before a House Intelligence Committee deadline to produce any such tapes -- the president deflated the balloon in a very non-Trumpian way. There was no drawn-out press conference in the lobby of the Trump Hotel, for instance, like the one he staged during his presidential campaign to announce he was finally dropping his false, five-year-long conspiracy theory about President Barack Obama’s birthplace.” http://politi.co/2sxleuB
TWO STORIES FROM INSIDE THE WEST WING ...
-- “Trump is struggling to stay calm on Russia, one morning call at a time,” by WaPo’s Ashley Parker and Phil Rucker: “President Trump has a new morning ritual. Around 6:30 a.m. on many days -- before all the network news shows have come on the air -- he gets on the phone with a member of his outside legal team to chew over all things Russia. The calls -- detailed by three senior White House officials -- are part strategy consultation and part presidential venting session, during which Trump’s lawyers and public-relations gurus take turns reviewing the latest headlines with him. They also devise their plan for battling his avowed enemies: the special counsel leading the Russia investigation; the ‘fake news’ media chronicling it; and, in some instances, the president’s own Justice Department overseeing the probe.
“His advisers have encouraged the calls — which the early-to-rise Trump takes from his private quarters in the White House residence — in hopes that he can compartmentalize the widening Russia investigation. By the time the president arrives for work in the Oval Office, the thinking goes, he will no longer be consumed by the Russia probe that he complains hangs over his presidency like a darkening cloud.” http://wapo.st/2lHLL2B
--“Trump loses patience with his White House counsel,” by Nancy Cook and Josh Dawsey: “White House counsel Don McGahn has largely stepped back from managing Donald Trump’s response to the expanding Russia investigation, but that hasn’t stopped the president from lashing out at him about it anyway. Trump started the week by giving McGahn, a loyal supporter who was among the first Washington establishment figures to sign on with his presidential campaign, a dressing down in the Oval Office for not doing more to squash the Russia probe early on.
“The episode -- recounted by four people familiar with the conversation -- came as part of a broader discussion on Monday about the president’s frustrations with special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, which now includes the question of whether Trump himself tried to obstruct the investigation by firing FBI director James Comey.” http://politi.co/2sIJqsm
THE OPPOSITION -- “Pelosi defiant as restless Democrats consider options,” by Heather Caygle and John Bresnahan: “A defiant House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday said she has no plans to step down anytime soon, despite calls from some rank-and-file Democrats for new leadership and at least one meeting to plot to replace her. Pelosi spent a good chunk of her weekly news conference defending her longtime perch atop the Democratic Caucus, at times even mocking colleagues within her party who have in recent days said it’s time for her to step aside.
“‘I respect any opinion that my members have, but my decision about how long I stay is not up to them,’ Pelosi told reporters. ‘My caucus is overwhelmingly supportive of me.’ But as Pelosi was defending her status in the caucus, of group of Democrats were already planning a secret afternoon meeting to talk about potentially trying to replace her. A dozen Democrats attended the meeting out of the nearly 20 members invited. Afterward, leaders of the group said no decisions have been made about what to do next, but that support is growing within the caucus to topple Pelosi.” http://politi.co/2rZXsDT
-- ACTUALLY, whether she remains as the top Democrat in the House is entirely up to her colleagues. That being said, the majority of her caucus is supportive of her, so she will survive for the time being.

MORE MEMOS! -- “Memo Shows Preet Bharara Was Concerned After Phone Call From White House,” by BuzzFeed’s Jason Leopold and Claudia Koerner: “Former US Attorney Preet Bharara sent an email to Justice Department officials in New York to express concern about a voicemail he received in March from President Donald Trump’s secretary, Madeline Westerhout, according to emails BuzzFeed News obtained Thursday from the Department of Justice under [FOIA] ... ‘At approximately 4:41 pm, on 3/9/17, I received the following voicemail at work: “Hi, Mr. Bharara. This is Madeline Westerhout calling from President Donald Trump’s office. If you could please give me a call back at that would be great. Thanks,”’ Bharara wrote in an email he sent to then-deputy US Attorney Joon Kim and Joan Loughnane, chief counsel to Bharara.” http://bzfd.it/2sI95S2
-- “Tough-talking Trump defense lawyer says he’s no ‘snowflake,’” by Reuters’ Karen Freifeld: “The latest lawyer hired to represent U.S. President Donald Trump in the federal investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election is an ex-Marine who likens some cases to war. ‘I fight hard,’ John Dowd said in an interview. ‘I believe that's what I’m supposed to do. I am not a snowflake, I can tell you that.’ ... Dowd, who spoke with Reuters on Wednesday, is a mirror of his client in many ways. He has a no-holds-barred, hyperbolic style and a history of attacking prosecutors, congressional Democrats and the media. ... A onetime military lawyer with the U.S. Marine Corps, Dowd noted his shared service in declining to criticize Mueller, a Marine platoon leader during the Vietnam War. ‘Bobby is doing what he has to do and he’ll do a good job,’ said Dowd. ‘He’s a fellow Marine and he’s a good man.’” http://reut.rs/2rIYxAW
TRUMP’S FRIDAY -- He is meeting with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis. He’ll also sign the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017.

-- SCOOP: The Department of Homeland Security is restarting a stalled $10-million grant program for “Countering Violent Extremism” this morning. Life After Hate, a group dedicated to deradicalizing neo-Nazis and stopping white extremism, was slated to get $400,000 in the final days of the Obama administration (http://bit.ly/2sxsh6x) before the program was halted for review, but the Trump administration dropped them from the new grant list that’s getting announced today. The group has seen a twenty-fold increase in requests for help since Election Day “from people looking to disengage or bystanders/family members looking for help from someone they know,” the organization’s founder Christian Picciolini told us. The Denver, Las Vegas, and Seattle police departments are some of the big cities that are getting six-figure grants to fight extremism. Los Angeles and Denver are also among the cities getting money. DHS did not comment last night on why Life After Hate was dropped.
BUSINESS BURST -- “American Airlines CEO ‘Not Happy’ About Qatar Airways Plan to Buy 10% Stake: Gulf airline intends to buy shares on the open market—an approach American Airlines CEO calls ‘puzzling and strange’,” by WSJ’s Robert Wall, Susan Carey and Doug Cameron: “In a filing early Thursday, American said Qatar Airways Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker told it of its plan to acquire up to a 10% stake. American said Qatar Airways informed it of its intention to buy at least $808 million of its stock on the open market, or roughly 16.7 million shares at Wednesday’s closing price.
“American Chief Executive Doug Parker, in an interview Thursday, he was ‘not happy’ about the prospect and found the approach ‘puzzling and strange.’ ... Qatar’s proposed investment in American would be more unusual: The two have been on opposite sides of a bitter air-industry fight. Some U.S. and European carriers have accused Qatar Airways and two other Gulf airlines, Emirates Airline and Etihad Airways, of benefiting from government ownership and subsidies. The fast-growing Gulf carriers have denied that.” http://on.wsj.com/2s30V4Q
FIRST PERSON -- “We participated in talks with North Korean representatives. This is what we learned,” by Bruce Klingner and Sue Mi Terry in WaPo: “This month, we were part of a group of delegates from the United States, Japan, China and South Korea who met in Sweden with representatives of North Korea to explore possible grounds for resuming the six-party talks that collapsed in 2009. After many hours with the North Korean delegation at these ‘1.5 track’ talks, we left more pessimistic than when we arrived. North Korean officials made unambiguously clear that Pyongyang will not be deterred from augmenting its nuclear arsenal or test-launching an intercontinental ballistic missile that could eventually threaten the U.S. homeland. There were no signals of flexibility or willingness to negotiate on these programs. Throughout, the North Korean message was that denuclearization is off the table.” http://wapo.st/2tVpt13
YIKES -- “In Yemen’s secret prisons, UAE tortures and U.S. interrogates,” by AP’s Maggie Michaels in Mukalla, Yemen: “Hundreds of men swept up in the hunt for al-Qaida militants have disappeared into a secret network of prisons in southern Yemen where abuse is routine and torture extreme -- including the ‘grill,’ in which the victim is tied to a spit like a roast and spun in a circle of fire, an Associated Press investigation has found. Senior American defense officials acknowledged Wednesday that U.S. forces have been involved in interrogations of detainees in Yemen but denied any participation in or knowledge of human rights abuses. ... The AP documented at least 18 clandestine lockups across southern Yemen run by the United Arab Emirates or by Yemeni forces created and trained by the Gulf nation.” http://apne.ws/2rJgq2v
-- “Qatar’s neighbors issue steep list of demands to end crisis,” by AP’s Josh Lederman: “Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries that have cut ties to Qatar issued a steep list of demands Thursday to end the crisis, insisting that their Persian Gulf neighbor shutter Al-Jazeera, cut back diplomatic ties to Iran and close down a Turkish military base in Qatar. In a 13-point list -- presented to the Qataris by Kuwait, which is helping mediate the crisis -- the countries also demand that Qatar sever all ties with the Muslim Brotherhood and with other groups including Hezbollah, al-Qaida and the Islamic State group. The Associated Press obtained a copy of the list in Arabic from one of the countries involved in the dispute.” http://apne.ws/2tVi69D

Kevin Mallory, 60, was arrested by the FBI at his home in Leesburg, Virginia, on Thursday and brought to federal court in Alexandria to face preliminary charges of espionage and lying to federal officers. While the sensitivity of the information disclosed remains unclear, if the government can prove the charges, the case would represent one of the most brazen acts of espionage for China carried out by a veteran of the CIA and other government agencies.” http://politi.co/2tVcNY7
MICHAEL GRUNWALD in The Agenda, “The anti-innovation presidency: Behind all the theater of ‘Tech Week,’ Trump’s budget makes deeper cuts to research and development than any White House in modern history”: “There’s a political logic to Trump’s innovation policy heresies. Two thirds of R&D spending goes to blue states, and most of it tends to cluster in large cities and college towns rather than farm country or the Rust Belt, one reason these issues have more resonance for cosmopolitan technocrats than for Trump voters.” http://politi.co/2sILUqX

Mr. Azima also appeared in Vienna in 2015 during negotiations on the Iran nuclear deal. In each setting, Mr. Solomon was a fixture at the bar and restaurant table with Mr. Azima ... 2016.09.19 22:25 All_of_Antarctica Chris-Sama and his Pet Schoolgirl

[TLDR at the bottom for those that hate the written word]
Between NGI's surveillance capabilities and what knowledge of tracking I had, Chris wasn't hard to find. Although granted I'm pretty sure he wasn't trying very hard to stay hidden. The trail of bodies was a pretty clear indication that I was getting close. And not one of them matched the photo Chorina had given me, so I assumed it wasn't just some roving psychopath out for a stroll. It was a very specific roving psychopath out for a stroll.
I caught up with him outside of New Rochester. Climbing was one of the first things I'd taught myself in Iceland, and I used it and a grapple hook I'd taken from Smith to forgo the usual forest paths. But I must've made enough movement and noise for his Voice to pick up on, cause as I got close he started scanning in my direction.
"Hello! If you're the lady of the forest, I wonder if you think I'm Jameson. Maybe Something about being deflowered!" I'd never heard Chris's voice before, but even I could tell something was up. It sounded lower than I'd imagined, and too calm to be alert at the possibility of an ambush. Still, I admit he'd made me grin.
“I’d bust his cock off.” Throwing my voice was another thing I'd picked up. Useful for distracting walkers and the like. I didn't want him to get too nervous though, so I jumped into the brush to give him some idea of where I was. In hindsight not the best of ideas.
Chris pulled out a pistol faster than I'd ever seen anyone draw the moment I moved. There was a bullet hole in my by the time I'd hit the ground. Fortunately for both of us I'm not human, and at best it got me a bit cheesed. "It 'aint nice to shoot at strangers Chris-Chan." As I said this Chris-Chan was backing up away from the brush, dropping some kind of device as he went. I figured out what it was a little too late to do anything about it.
"Hello, operator? Get me the biggest gun you can find. The biggest one that's in range of my beacon." Not good. Maybe if I could convince him I'd planned for that...
"Forget it, there are drones overhead jamming your signal!”
That got him running. The Voice perked up at the idea of a hunt, especially against another Voice. But all that amounted to was me deciding I was through being ignored. Here I come Senpai. I aimed the grapple at a thick tree branch overhead, dialed the tension a little, and fired. Then I zipped up and over it like goddam batman and came down just in front of Chris on all fours to break my momentum.
“Top o’ da mornin’ to ya boyo! So do you want to talk or do you want to see how this plays out?” I hadn't come to fight, but I'd defend myself if he attacked. Instead he just looked happy to see me, almost gleeful. It was creepy.
"I'd say you're like Cerberus, aren't you? If I throw a stick are you liable to chase it?" Guess he noticed the eyes. Or maybe the fact that my gunshot wound was already almost healed. That might've tipped him off. I stood up.
“I’m a different breed of dog. Less mange and pissing on the furniture. You do know Ash is looking for you right?”
His grin didn't go away. "I figured she might come looking. But typically she reaches out on reddit, rather than jamming my signals and then sending a half-infected."
“Yeah, well that’s probably cause she didn’t send me. An she doesn’t know where you are, yet. Mind telling me where you’re going?”
"For a stroll." I thought back to the bodies he'd left in his wake. One poor bastard had had his trachea almost ripped out. Definitely excessive force. Princess would not have approved.
“I noticed. Hell of a stroll. You thinking about heading back to Smith any time soon? I hear they need you."
"They do." He said plainly. "And I am aiding them. Besides, I do rather enjoy being alive. It lets me do things."
“That’s not the impression I get from your posts.” I crossed my arms, trying to look tough I guess. “The impression I’m getting is that you’ve checked out.”
"And the impression that I get from the way you look at me is that you think I'm a disappointment." His grin looked positively sickening in its maniacal glee. My eyes narrowed. He was reminding me way too much of Black Alice.
“Disappointment to who? Ash? If she was disappointed then why would she be trying to call you back? Look I can’t do anything for them. And even if I could they don’t want me there. But you can.”
"Oh, I can always tell when someone's judging a book by its reputation instead of its cover. If you had any wits about you, though, you'd know I'm so much more than people say." I looked him over. Chris had kept his Smith uniform mostly clean, especially for just coming out of Duluth. He had long hair and a longer ponytail, an easy grapple hold in close combat. But I guess he knew enough about what he did to not care. Wait? Was I actually judging by appearance? Crap.
“I’m not sure who the hell you think I am, but you better believe that I believe that I know a thing or two about people believing lies about people just based on reputations. Either way, I don’t believe I’ve heard much about you at all really. I mean, I know you and Maine were super best buddies for life. I know you had a crush on Artemis that fell flat. I know you like manga and fedoras. And I also know that you want to be treated like a grownup. War’s done that much for you.” I uncrossed my arms. “But if all that’s just the cover, then what’s the content?”
Something clicked in his head. "Ohhhh you're Davey!" He laughed. "How's Neko?" Right, in all the excitement I'd forgotten to introduce myself. Even after the end of the world, people could still meet people they'd only ever known online and not recognize them.
“Last I saw he was at Smith trying to keep the recruits alive. He… regretted no being able to join you.”
"And how's Hosanna? Last I hear, the old hag's clone was back on her feet. I wonder if she's every bit the original, or if she has any plans to put the old one to rest?" He giggled insanely. "Tell me, if you go back- what will you do with her? Her mind's gone- it's just a body. So it clearly doesn't bother you to be downing her blood like a Smithie back from their first training exercise."
His bEhavIor, eRrATic. He wAntS to FIghT. oBLIge.
“The ‘old Hag’s’ body already gave out after the Borson’s fell. I could have put her out of her misery long ago but chose not to for a couple reasons, none of which were very good. And I didn’t know Smith students drank blood."
"Oh, sorry to hear," he laughed. "Guess you're as dry as Jameson pretends to be, or how a Scout drinks after their first mission. They can't handle it, you know," he laughed. "Well, most of them can't. But I found one who could. OH SCHOOLGIRL!" He called out. The bushes rustled from behind me. I'd leapt right past her. Her and her sniper rifle, which was trained on your humble narrator. She wore an innocent and scared expression on her face, and sported an honest-to-god Catholic Schoolgirl outfit. It was a tiny bit dirty and ruffled, with an enormous red splotch near the shoulder.
ShE couLD hiDE froM uS and EveN i couLDn't finD her. ThReat. Kill hER.
I ignored the Voice, it was a habit I was committed to developing. The pieces fell into place as Chris's cryptic trash started to make sense. "Friend of yours?"
"New student," Chris laughed. "Found her, running away from her All-Catholic school. A Borson Testing machine was being passed around to find scouts. A priest got hold of her, and...well, that's when I came along. Just taking a stroll..." he chuckled. So that's what those bodies were about. The man with the torn out esophagus, I remembered now, he'd been collared. Kane's piss Chris, what did you see to make you go off like that? Meanwhile "Schoolgirl" advanced on me with her rifle. I could smell the fear pheromones wafting off her. Made me sad to think she was scared of me. But I guess until Noah was dead I really would be a monster to most people.
I scratched my head, trying to avoid thinking about how much it would suck to get shot with her gun point-blank. “I didn’t even know Catholic schools were still around. But given the Albanists I can’t say I’m surprised.”
"They're back in style," he shrugged. "Honestly, I think Jameson dreamed up the uniforms himself." It wasn't hard to guess why. The miniskirt wasn't exactly hiding much. She was... especially well-endowed, as well- and strangely, Chris was paying her absolutely zero interest.
“That…. Is too plausible” The pieces clicked out of place again. If he wasn't interested in her then...“You’re taking her to Smith?”
"Do I look like I am?" He seemed to be in on something that I wasn't. "Then again, you religious types tend to like to prey on the young and impressionable. Maybe the Albanists ordered it this way."
“You called her a new student.” I answered simply. He was pissing me off again. Kanism had its problems, I wouldn't deny it. But we didn't brainwash and kill children. We saved that for the adults.
"She is," he said lazily, as though already bored. He continued walking away. The Schoolgirl was marching with her rifle at my back, and the three of us musketeers proceeding along the river's embankment towards Rochester.
“You seem really hung up on the whole Kanite thing. Don’t lump me in with the Albanists, nobody joins NG that doesn’t want to.”
"For now. Then, a few hundred thousand followers later, and it's 'give your daily tithe or we'll take it from your throat,'" he laughed. "That's the way of history." The schoolgirl was shaking now. It looked like it was from exhaustion. She was afraid, and had been walking for hours.
She'S weaK. You nEEd to StriKe noW wHile hEr bOyfriend'S bacKS turNed.
Even if I did do that, that'd never work and you know it.

Even the bestial part of my subconscious is a smart ass. It's a wonder Meter and I don't get along better.
“Followers already do something like that, so I guess we’re already at your nightmare scenario. An it’s interesting you mention that stuff, given that we’re on our way to Kanite-channelers-are-devil-wizards Rochester.”
Finally I guess her body just gave out. She lowered the rifle by its butt and then fell face-first into the tall grass. "And there she goes," Chris doubled back and gave me a wide berth. He scooped down, not taking his eyes off me as he rolled her over onto her back and strapped her rifle across his own. He picked her up and cradled her. Least he was showing some concern. Shame the timing of it all was too damn convenient. I didn't like this.
We walked for a while in silence before I decided to pop the question. “Um, I have food and water. Maybe we should stop?”
"Davey, I'm going to say this once- Neko trusts you. Neko's also an idiot." Sir, you may insult the woman who I call family, diss my religion, and disrespect me. But when you insult my cat, it's go time. I pulled out my dart gun, shot Chis in the neck and caught him before he could hit the ground. Then I left him hung from a tree naked with a razor duct tapped to his balls that he could use to cut himself down when he woke up.
Ok so maybe I didn't do any of that. But I felt like it though. I even had the blow pipe in my hand. “Niko stays with the people he cares about. More than I could say about you."
Chris looked down at the girl he was cradling in his arms, then grinned as though that was funny to him. Then he continued heading towards the city, not taking his eyes off me the entire time. "Goes to show how well you know me."
“Then enlighten me.”
"No," he said simply.
“….Ok.” We kept on trekking and I kept on checking the dart gun to make sure it was clean and loaded.

"Are you going to follow me everywhere?" Chris finally broke the silence.
“Only until I know your friend’s safe."

I tried to take my mind off arguing with Vick (I've decided to name it. Tricky Vick.) by arguing with Chris some more.
“So if you won’t tell me who School Girl is or where you’re taking her, can you at least tell me why you haven’t returned to Smith? I’m just curious.”
"I already told you," he laughed.
He was so manic almost.... Almost like how I got whenever I felt I was screwed.
“You may have. Not in the way you meant to though probably. Why are you afraid of Ash?”
Now he stopped. "She's my headmistress," he laughed it off. But it was clear that I had perhaps taken it a step too far. Fine by me. "I don't like to argue with her because then I get a boner, and it gets super awkward."
Being half-infected has its advantages. I could practically see his vibrations picking up as his heart rate jumped at the thought of his mentor, smell the pheromones wafting from him. That and Vick's diagnosis (he actually helped for a change, imagine that) confirmed my theory.
“No kidding, me too. She’s not mad at you Chris. At least not mad enough to hurt you. She’s scared now that she’s in charge and one of her…. six right? One of her six remaining students just fell of the edge of the earth. She needs your help just as much as she does.” I gestured to Schoolgirl, still passed out in Chris's arms. It was both cute and unnerving.
"Student? Excuse me. I am a motherfucking Smith Scout. I killed a lot of people to earn that title, and I will be called by it." He snorted, and resumed walking. "But besides," he adjusted how he held the Schoolgirl. "You can't expect me to trust you. A half-infected who has expressed a false desire to become a scout, fucks Death Empress- congratulations, by the way, and then through ways unknown to me, is on...the Headmistress's retainer." I noticed how he hesitated to not call her 'Ash.'
I gripped the blow gun a little tighter at his mentioning Death Empress though. “Oh my, brilliant speech. And unoriginal. You totally ripped that off from Boondock Saints. Besides, I said it before. I never claimed I wanted to be a scout. At best I told Pearl I’d think about it. And I thought about it, and concluded that there were more pressing matters to attend to. But that doesn’t mean I’m not unwilling to help them. That’s why I’m on 'their retainer'. Not Ash’s necessarily, but Smith’s. I’m here on no one’s behalf except my own. Miranda didn’t even want me to head off by myself. You’re bloody welcome.”
"No, you just wanted to learn at FCC Smith and have a Voice and left us to do the math. Totally different." He was dripping in sarcasm- but he maintained a playful grin. I could respect that at least. "As you can see, you are totally necessary, and in no way an impedance. But I do have to say, you stink of hypocrisy, which may prove useful if we come across any more Albanists."
“I don’t owe Smith jack dandy just because I have a Voice. You can tell yours to stuff itself by the way. And I’m glad you think I’m such an integral part of the team. I mean how could I possibly obstruct you when I don’t even know what you’re trying to do? It’s a foolproof plan.”
"You do- you have a home there, a retreat, and we work tirelessly to ensure you are not treated unfairly as a consequence. Though you do everything in your power to splurge that by making yourself a half-infected blood-god worshipper during a time of a conservative christian revival." He took a breath. "But I'm paraphrasing Jack there." According to Vick his vitals went off the charts despite a calm, unflappable exterior. He and Ash were the lone survivors of the attack that had claimed Jack and the entire corridor of their wave. He was probably remembering him. "Either way, suppose I take you at your word," we reached a street and he listened intently, gazing around for any recent survivor activity that might suggest an ambush. Nothing- vehicle tracks, however, indicated we were on a main road towards Rochester. In the distance, an engine roared closer. "But if you want to help out, go flag down a ride. They might just shoot you, but I want to see if it's true what they say."
I walk past him to stop the car, and so I wouldn't be downwind of his self-righteousness. “Well damn. Guess you’re not the one who’s the disappointment after all." I spread my arms out in the middle of the street with my thumbs hitched. I wanted to punch something. If it had to be an oncoming truck then it was an oncoming truck. The vehicle's brakes squeaked as it came to a stop. A gun was trained outside the vehicle.
"Need a ride?" Someone inside asked.
“Depends. Got room for three more?”
They eyed me, then looked around. Chris emerged, holding the girl. "Drop off the rifle, and sure." The scout shrugged, then handed the girl off to me, not taking his eyes off me while handing the rifle over, then climbing into the back of the pickup truck. I noticed that Chris never handed over his pistol. Guess he plum forgot. I set Schoolgirl down in a seat and put on my sunglasses. With them on and my eyes covered I'd pass for a human. Albeit a human D-bag that wore aviators on a cloudy day. Chris made sure Schoolgirl's head was cradled safely against his balled up jacket. Otherwise he left her be.
It wasn't long before we got to where I guess we needed to be. "Alright, we're here," he said. This section of town was mostly empty and burned out old houses. Chris slapped the side of the vehicle, then waved. We all barreled out and Chris handed off a clip of ammunition as payment. I looked around. Place looked like it got hit with a bomb instead of an outbreak, save for a few solid structures and the church.
"Not much of a town."
"For now," Chris pointed at the church. There was scaffolding, signs of construction. But it must've been too late in the day for workers to be there. "That's going to be the new town center, I bet. And we are going to get in on this town before it comes too far on the up-and-up. Come on, let's get in on the housing market- find one that has a nice roof. I can replace a few smashed out windows, those likely went in the past year, but there isn't much I can do if the roof is genuinely dead." The schoolgirl, now awake, began searching, then pointed. Chris smiled at her. "Yes, that will do," he finally acknowledged her efforts and she seemed to bask in the praise- though he went right back to ignoring her presence. We traipsed down what was apparently soon going to be a bustling hive of urban dynamism, a scout and his student in front of me on either side like I was being escorted to prison.
“I’m getting the vague impression like I’m not wanted.”
Chris chuckled. "Alright, you got me. I find you to be the stuff of nightmare fuel, and frankly the fact that you're highly infectious and relatively indestructible is rather unnerving, as is Pearl's theory that you're still Noah and Alice's puppet being entirely too possible for my liking. Yet, because of the nigh-indestructible aspect, there is very little I can do about it. In fact, I'm pretty sure I can use you for the upcoming act. How do you feel about getting shot?"
He fEarS uS. MayBe thIs deAd boDy is gOOd aftEr alL
I don't want to be feared. Not by people.
“Well I know how to fix some of that. I’ve had myself… altered. I may still be infected, but I’m not infectious. I could spit in your cheerios and you still wouldn’t turn. And even if I am Noah and Alice’s pawn, why then would I show the slightest interest in you or Smith? I have more of a reason to want to kill Noah then you or Pearl…." I sighed. "Shot how many times and with what?”
"Of course, all I have is your word that all that is correct," he shrugged. "Call me a skeptic. I figure Noah doesn't have his fingers in all his pies just yet and would prefer the takeover be bloodless. You know the conspiracy about lizard people? Only fewer scales and fewer tinfoil hats. As for getting shot, well it depends how effective we are and how much you annoy me until it's time to run the op. And no, I won't be the one shooting you. Nor will Schoolgirl.".... Yay?
Schoolgirl piped up "I have a name-" Chris ignored her.
“He’s already tried to control me. He failed. And he can’t control Miranda or he would've done it by now. But if he ever does succeed, by all means feel free to put me down. I wouldn’t want to be his meat puppet anyway.” I looked at schoolgirl. “What’s your name?” but I guess I asked too angrily. Or maybe she just didn't like me. The look I got sent a clear message that mine wasn't the attention she was looking for.
"He failed, in your own words. As for me, I'm going to meet with Bradford, and give him one last chance to target Noah." Finally I could see the bottom of the rabbit hole. Or at least I thought I could.
“Well hell I was meaning to do that at some point anyway. Count me in."
"Oh, no, you'll be the hammer. Take those glasses off. I don't want you blending in- quite the opposite." My brain ran circles as I folded the aviators away, trying to come up with the most probably direction he was trying to take. Chris was proving a tricky person to read.
“… You want me to attack him don’t you?…. You want me to attack him pretending to be Chosen, and you’re going to swoop in and save him like the big damn hero.”
"...No, but I like your thinking. In the meantime. Schoolgirl? Find me some manga from the stalls and get a fresh uniform. Oh, and do make sure to mention who you are, and who you're staying with- that house right there looks good. Six thirty-two, Maple. Ask them to deliver the TV, fuel, and generator." He flicked her a small sack of coins. She bowed her head and took off running to complete her task, the miniskirt continuing to sway in the wind as some of the construction crew watched her go. She had a strange, perpetual innocence to her. I had the strangest.... never mind.
“Reminds me of my sister's kid plus a decade. Sorry for making assumptions, it’s just I’m a bit in the dark here so you’re making me guess.”
"If it makes you feel any better, if you weren't infected, I would tell you."
“Well at least there’s that.”
The schoolgirl came back with a few books instead of the TV. "Sorry, they said they didn't have any generators left, so I got books and cards!" She seemed happy. Chris sighed.
"These will do," he hid his disappointed. "Oh, and get yourself something for dinner." He took his handgun out and passed it to her, along with several clips of ammunition. "Use this for your own protection only. If Davey tries anything, shoot him. I'm meeting with Bradford."
“Make sure to aim for my head. Anything else probably won’t do it.” I tried to make her laugh, put her at ease. I failed. “Also I’d prefer to see him as well. Unless you’re having a more informal meeting.” I didn't want to become part of Olympus has Fallen Free Republic Edition if that's what he intended.
"Really? You're going to leave her in a strange part of town all alone, a Smith student?"
"Since you're placing so much confidence in me then fine. But you better not badmouth me to the FR."
"While I have his ear- anything you want me to pass along?"
“Tell him there’s a school for infected hunters going up in Ohio. But I’d appreciate you leaving out its leader’s medical condition. From what I know about Bradford he’s even less keen on halfs than you are.”
"I'll keep that in mind. But if he asks, you know I have to tell the truth."
“Fine. When they come for me I'll tell FRIA you said hello.”
And so off I went on a magical journey with Schoolgirl to enjoy a magical sandwich at a magical pub. Then we set things up in the magical house Chris had bought and I helped her carry things. She found out quick that I was stronger than a human my size had a right to be and took every opportunity to use me as a "living" forklift.
We didn't talk much. Like I said, she still saw me as a potential threat and after what Chris said I didn't really blame her. I learned that there had been a private Catholic school nearby. She had been studying there- and then her teacher had tried to kill her. She had fled- but classmates organized by the teacher had eventually tracked her down. Then Chris had shown up and I didn't need to be told what happened next.
Speaking of Chris, our fearless leader came "home" late at night in a vehicle -No idea where he got it- and seemed to be doing his damnedest to make sure he was seen entering. Vick and I both got a bad taste in the mouth thinking how his Presidential meeting had gone, and how I was now associated. I asked Schoolgirl if she knew what Chris intended to do with her. She cocked her head the way a puppy might when confused. "Well..." as if in answer, Chris shoved the door open.
"I brought vodka to go with the cards. I was going to get hookers, too, but you know their pimps don't take credit and I left all my coin with you. Lessons for next time." He flopped down into a couch in the center of the enormous foyer.
“They’d probably be too interested in me to notice you anyway. How’d it go?” I chose to believe that while the pimps hadn't taken credit, whoever gave him the car and booze did. It was hardly the largest problem I had to worry about.
"Well-" he broke the pack of cards and shuffled once, then began dealing. The pack was used, so the order was likely randomized. "-Let's just say, I didn't mention your infectious butt by name." He hadn't bothered telling me what the game was. Clearly whatever he expected to happen would come sooner rather than later.
“But you mentioned it nontheless. I guess I was smart to not tell you where in Ohio it will be."
"Nah, I mentioned you by name and that you were starting a college in Ohio- he liked that part well enough, I guess. He hasn't figured out how that might benefit him. Say, being a stop-off between the FCC and your school. Kind of a dim bulb." He passed the cards out. "I recommend not in the old Odinson Empire. I hear the Beacon's empty, and likely shut down. Southern Ohio's your best bet. Once Death Empress walked through there, it was cleared out of undead. The area's probably completely untouched since the fall, if you're looking for raw goods and startup capital. I highly doubt Bradford or Ash are going to float you a loan. Jameson might, though."
I shrugged. It was as good as I had expected to get. “He might. I might not need it given the sums I’ve levied from CKDO, but every bit helps. But I doubt you only talked about me."
"Well, some Smith business- he had questions, I didn't have ready answers for him, so I left. Anyways." He placed the first card- and then there was a vehicle outside. Chris looked up and met eyes with the Schoolgirl, who placed down her cards, sat up from her knees and grabbed Chris's sniper rifle. "Keep it," he said. "I'll take the pistol, at least until you've learned to use it." And there it was. I heaved a heavy sigh and pulled out the Goblin. I heard more vehicles pulling up, but with no windows it was impossible to tell where.
“These the hookers you were talking about?”
"In a manner of speaking," he seemed absolutely delighted at the prospect of violence. The Schoolgirl was picking up the furniture and upending it, ensuring that the tables formed a fortification of sorts. Smart kid. Our guests sent a friendly entreaty via megaphone.
"COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR!" Dammit Chris.
"Well! If it isn't the church! I didn't expect such a response- you're aware we have a little catholic schoolgirl in here, right? I didn't think you would be this excited!"
I augmented my comrades polite retort. “Oh and look at that, no little Timmy glued to your crotch. Progress!" That made him laugh.
"It reeks of hypocrisy in here! And no, I don't mean you, for once." Oh goody, I was finally popular.
Our guests let themselves in. "On the ground!"
I turned and held up my hands, still holding my gun. “Good evening officers! Listen I know we’ve all gotten off to a bad start but I’m sure if we just lower our pieces and discuss things, we can be friends. Whaddya say?"
Chris had his own version of diplomacy. "What, you don't want to know the intricacies of the situation? No? Just point guns and shout until you get your way?" He giggled. "See how the sheep act? Religion does this to people. Never forget that, man. I hope you never forget what it's like being on the other side. Sure, you got a taste when you were younger- that preacher gone rogue...but...it's time for a refresher course."
"DROP YOUR WEAPONS AND PUT YOUR HANDS ON YOUR HEADS!"
"She is an FCC Citizen. She has defected to our nation and our cause."
"RELEASE THE SCHOOLGIRL!"
"What, so you can kill her? Fat chance. You tried that once, and I'm not letting you try again."
"THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARNING!"
"Of course, this bleating only lasts as long as they outnumber you and think they have the strength in their numbers." They fired first. I just thought I should point that out. I was closest, so most of it came to me. I crumpled in a head of perforated flesh and my own blood. Kane dammit Chris.
He slapped a button. A big one. One that looked suspiciously like the "Match Ender" that Jack had used to kick off the war. Claymores detonated in a ring around the block. He hadn't just come back with vodka, it seemed. It also killed the lights focused on us as the cops and Schoolgirl exchanged fire.
I watched as blood rushed back into my body. I had absorbed more than enough on the way here to come back from this. They hadn't even driven a steak through my heart. Several bodies hit the floor- they seemed reluctant to fire on the schoolgirl- her innocence seemed gone. She wasn't calm- she was bloodthirsty and screaming with rage. Rollan would've called it a spiritual awakening. Chris, for his part, seemed to be enjoying this entirely too much. He would pop up and open fire on the blinded response team, then move a few feet behind the barricade and then pop up again and tag another. Soon only two were left, fumbling for clips, unable to see as they'd been staring into the construction lights Schoolgirl'd set up a while ago.
It was around this time that I decided it was a good idea to rise up from the ground like some kind of demon straight from their lake of fire and tap the closest guard behind the shoulder. He whirled around to see my grin in his face and my blade in his gut. His armor was meant to stop bullets and knives. Watcher's Bane cut through it like it was cardboard.
I whispered in the good officer's ear "Ya don' goofed." Then I rushed into his partner, using the first one's body as a shield. Once they were dead, Chris hopped over the barricade.
"So." He said. "You were saying...?" Schoolgirl dropped her weapon and ran outside arms raised. Not good. I ran out after her, only to discover that she was just looking for a truck to liberate. Eventually she found one, albeit there still was a living driver inside. But that didn't seem to bother her as she back up to us.
“YOU SURE YOU DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING ELSE TO BRADFORD?! SOMETHING HE MIGHT TAKE OFFENSE AT?!” I yelled over the engine noise.
"WELL, I DID SAY, AND I QUOTE: "...Anyways, I just wanted to say, we've got a schoolgirl from St. Anthony's holed up with us at 632 Maple. And by 'we' I mean someone with Noah's strain of infection, myself as an FCC Scout, and if you have any questions, you should probably ask there." He got up into the truck and grabbed the soldier, who was shivering in fear. "Oh come on, lighten up. You chose this path. You could have approached as allies, asked what was up, or done literally anything other than attack. Then again, I had a sinking suspicion of what you really thought of us. It's a good thing we prepared. That's...oh, about thirty fewer people who are out to kill us." He looked to Davey. "Alright. You wanted me to trust you? You've earned it. We're in this together, now."
“Glad to hear it. Where the hell are we going?" As Schoolgirl floored our party bus off into the night, we discussed how where were going to get the hell out of FR.
"P-please don't shoot me," the man in the rear begged.
"You know, I remember her begging her teacher the same. Her teacher was just like you lot. Strong, as long as he had the numbers. Thought he could do anything he wanted." Chris chuckled. "What do you think, Davey?" I turned to the "man" and he gave me a tiny smirk. So she had managed to keep up with us. Good. I grabbed the guard by the lapels and pulled him close.
"Pretend like you're knocked out," I whispered. Then I pushed my fist into his face. Not hard, just had to make it look convincing. The guard fell to the back of the truck, motionless.
"I was gonna make him beg and swear to never raise a hand to those stronger than him for so long as he lived, swear allegiances, the works."
"Nothing stopping you from doing that once he wakes up. I just didn't want him doing something stupid while we were in transit."
"Fair."
"So after we fly the coup, what's your next move?"
"Honestly? I can't say, I literally haven't planned that far ahead. Getting the girl to Smith, for starters."
After that we talked a little more about matters not interesting to anyone but us. Eventually he and I agreed that it'd be best if I jumped ship and made my own way out if I could. FR had my mugshots after all (I don't want to talk about it).
"Head to a populated area, hope they lose you. Best of luck, Davey!"
I opened the passenger door and got ready to tuck and roll. Schoolgirl wasn't slowing down. “Many thanks. One thing before I go though.” I moved at my highest speed, grabbing Chris by the shirt and pointing my pistol at schoolgirl while she drove. I pulled Chris in close, making him look into my eyes now that my cherub-like demeanor was gone from them. “Don’t ever make me kill people for you again. Come on Miranda. We should get going.” Then I pushed him back and retracted my gun, jumping out into the darkness. Soon the guard got up and jumped out with me, already morphing back to her "real" appearance.
"Byeeee, don't forget to tell daddy you love him!" Chris waved cheerily anyways.
I saluted him with one hand and fired a warning shot into the air with the other as the Truck disappeared.
After that it was a few hours of walking though the woods, Miranda making me carry her through the swampier parts, before we rendezvoused with Alice and Jeremiah near the river. We had work to do.
TL;DR: Davey met up with Chris in New Rochester. He convinced Chris to go back to Smith and discovered that Chris had rescued a new Smith student from the Albanists. Davey then followed the two of them into the city where Chris met with Bradford and baited him into sending a swat team after the trio. Davey helped fight them off and escaped with Chris, finally earning his trust. He, Alice, Jeremiah, Miranda, Darcy, and a metric butt-ton of zombies are now sailing down the Ohio River trying to find Old Golgotha.

2015.02.28 10:50 MightbeaViking College Class No. 1 - Night Class

So the class went swimmingly, for the most part. I was given a small team of guards under my command for the safety of the students, 8 in total. I told them to spread out in a small circle around the group. Try not to scare of any wildlife, but deal with any Zack they see.
Here is the video transcript of the class. It started at 7:00 p.m. 20 students were allowed to come, Has_A_Hatchet tagged along as well. My camera man was a student named Andrew, he will be recording all of my classes.
The recording starts, Viking is standing in front of a group of students smiling and answering questions, they have yet to leave the campus. Her hair is in a braid down her back, she is wearing a baggy camouflage shirt and worn denim jeans with hiking boots. Her bow is strapped to her back, her pistol on her hip. The students are dressed warmly. hile they are mingling, a guard comes up and whispers in Viking's ear.
V: Alright! We're heading out now, get ready.
The class quiets, putting on jackets and dividing into partners. They follow the guard out of the gate into the area beyond.
V: Ok we're going to walk over to that woodsy area over there She points to a small group of trees and dense shrub. Any concerns, questions or comments before we start?
S1 (a nervous looking girl): How late will we be out?
V: About midnight, this is a night survival class after all. You can't learn the concepts properly in the day time, that would be like any other survival class.
S2 (a young male): Will we be learning anything besides what was stated on the sign up sheet?
V: I dunno, this is the wilderness, I don't control what happens to us out here. I will teach basic survival skills you will need to survive nighttime, maybe show you different nocturnal animals, teach you how to find a meal and keep safe through all of this. Any other questions? No...? Ok let's head out.
Three of the guards move out ahead of Viking, they form a wide circle around the group. Viking leads the students into the brush pointing out signs of wildlife and talking about how you should always be on the look out for a food or water source
V: Food and water are the most important things you need to survive, you should always be looking for something to eat or signs of water. Does anyone see any signs of water in this area? It's all pretty green, that's probably all from the melting snow, we need a stream or a creek. Anyone see any signs of running water?
The students all look around, the surrounding area is very lush, and they can't seem to find any signs of running water
V: No one? Alright, Hatchet, what about you? See anything that might lead us to some?
Hatchet looks very nervousH: Um, frankly it's kind of hard to tell, everything looks very green around here.
V: It does, but more water means more growth, bigger plants means a bigger water source. Tall reeds, or big bushes, even trees, can show that there is a steady supply of water in the area.
S3: So we should go look in the trees over there?
V: Yep, but let's look in other places just for educational purposes. I see a bank of big bushes and weeds over there, that is probably the stream that feeds into the trees. We're going to go check it out.
The group heads over to a line of tall bushes and weeds. Viking walks in between to bushes and steps into a small creek. The students gather around and make their way through the bushes to stand closer to the water.
V: I told you. Now, this water looks pretty clear, but we still don't know if it is safe to drink. Viking squats to get closer to the water, turning over stones and looking near the banks.
V: A definite sign it's not safe is if you see any worms in the water, check under stones and around the banks for any. Now, I don't see any here, but that doesn't mean it's safe. There's always a chance of bacteria being in it. We will follow this into the trees and boil some in there. Viking stands up
V: Now this is too shallow for fish, does anyone see any other sources of food?
H: I bet there is some kind of food source in the trees. Squirrels, rabbits, maybe some nuts and berries.
V: Exactly. C'mon you guys.
The group follows the stream into the wooded area. Viking leads them in deeper until they reach a clearing. Everyone is chatting amongst themselves and having a good time. Viking quiets the group, about an hour has passed since they left campus.
V: Alright, I think this is a good place to go over some skills. What would be the next step to surviving the night after finding water?
Multiple people start speaking, answers include: find food, start a fire, secure the area, and boil the water.
V: Those are all good ideas, but we need to focus on food. If we had no water left we would focus on starting a fire to boil it, but that is not necessary. We need to find food. I will show you how to set up a small trigger spring snare, and find some edible plants. We can worry about starting a fire later, the smell of smoke might scare off any potential prey, and in the wild there is no way to completely secure an area.
Anyway, to make a snare we need to find a game trail. Look for droppings, paw prints, and tunnels leading into the ground. Now because there is so many of us, we probably won't catch anything. We've been loud and we smell, every animal in here probably knows where we are. But this is still a great opportunity to show you all how to set up a snare. Tell me if you find somewhere that looks heavily traveled. Also setting snares is a game of numbers, the more you set, the higher your chances of catching something will be. I will come over and show you how to make it, I think it will be easier teaching two or three at a time. Look hard but stay close, it would really put a damper on things if someone got lost.
The groups dissolves as people begin looking for signs of wildlife. Most stay in pairs and trios. As people find tracks and signs of life, Viking comes over and shows them how to make a simple snare with some fishing line, a bent sapling and a small trigger. Once she has showed a group she sends them back to the clearing to wait. She comes back with the last group, about an hour has passed again. The sun has almost set.
V: Alright everyone, good work. I'd say we got at least ten snares set, that is pretty good. While we wait and see if anything gets caught we're going to go over edible plants. This will be pretty hard seeing as it's getting dark, but this can always happen in real life.
Since it is relatively early in the season the plants will be small. Clovers, purslane, field pennycress, dandelions, and chickweed should be found in this area. Viking studies the ground around her for a moment, finally walking over to a fallen tree and plucking a plant near the side.
This looks like pennycress, but always check for some of the signs of a poisonous plant. Milky sap, spines or hairs, and an almondy smell are all warning signs of a poisonous plant. If it tastes soapy spit it out immediately. Viking smells the plant and rubs it with her fingers then takes a bite out of some of the stems.
V: Yep, this is pennycress. Pass some of this around, you can try it if you would like. She rips another clump from the ground and passes it around.
It might be to early for dandelions and chickweed, but I bet you all could find some clovers. I will look for some purslane while you try and find clovers. Viking walks off eating the chickweed. The group dissolves, finding clover relatively easily. They take tentative bites of it, talking about the surprisingly bitter taste. A short while later Viking comes back with an example of purslane.
V: So it looks like everyone found clover easily enough? What did you think of the taste?
Chatter starts up about the bitter taste. People arguing about how bad it was, Viking quickly calms everyone down.
V: If you want to remove the bitter taste you can boil it. But it is perfectly OK to eat it raw. This is an excellent plant, easy to identify and found all over. Same with pennycress, I love that plant. This is some purslane. It is pretty common, and actually quite sour. I brought back enough for everyone to try.
The plant is passed around, everyone tries it and gives it a good looking over.
V: It is getting pretty late, we should check our traps. Go to where we set up your snares, if anyone caught anything come fetch me.
The students go off to check their traps while Viking starts eating more of the pennycress and purslane. The only group to catch something was Imightbeflirting and two other students. A rabbit is caught in the snare, still alive.
V: I would say the only downside to this snare is that you have to kill the animal after it is caught. But the positives outweigh this one negative. You can scale it up to trap deer and it has a simple design. If I catch any animal in this trap I snap its neck then gut and drain it elsewhere. Viking removes the rabbit from the noose and snaps its neck. A few of the more squeamish people gasp and cover their face. One girl begins to cry.
V: Hey now, there is no reason to cry, it didn't feel any pain. Besides this is what hunting is all about. This makes the girl cry harder.
V: Hey, I'm sorry here, Hatchet, take this Viking goes to comfort the girl, but she backs away from Viking, violently sobbing.
V: Uh, listen, I know it looked and sounded horrible, but it really didn't feel any pain. It was over within a second This does nothing to comfort the girl.
V: Oh man, i'm really sorry, does anyone here know her? No one? Shit. Hatchet, do you want to take over here? Viking takes the rabbit from Hatchet, who goes to comfort the girl.
V: Well, I guess you can stay here until we get this skinned and gutted. We'll head back to the clearing and finish it. I will come back and get you when it is done. The rest of the students leave, following Viking, while Hatchet and the girl stay behind.
V: Ok, I will need light to see how to properly do this, so lets start a fire. Does anyone know how to do that? A confident student steps forward.
CS: I am pretty sure no one leaves without matches anymore these days. He pulls a match book from his pocket.
V: Well, if you are sure about that, set us up a fire. The student grabs a handful of dried grass and a piece of bark of a tree. He also collects a pile of twigs. He arranges the grass on top of the bark and lights it. In seconds he has a small fire going, feeding it twigs and asking for bigger branches, which are quickly retrieved. In a couple of minutes, a decent sized fire is roaring and popping.
V: I must say, I am impressed. Does anyone have any questions about how he did that? If not we can move on to preparing the rabbit... Looks like on to the rabbit.
Ok first off we need to drain all the blood out. Usually we just cut off the head and let the blood drain out of the neck. I'll show you how to do that Viking demonstrates this, holding the rabbit up by the back legs to let it drain, this elicits more whimpers and a few gagging sounds.
V: Ok, of you have a weak stomach, or love animals a whole lot, go sit with Hatchet. * Four people leave.*
V: You think they would know what they are getting into, geez. Anyway, You really should do all of this away from your campsite, but since we won't really be sleeping here it can pass just this once. You should drain, skin, and gut all where you kill your prey... Ok, looks like this fella is empty now, I'll show you how to skin it. Cut off all of the legs at the first joint, we can't do a whole lot with those, normally I would give them to my dogs. Viking shows the remaining students how to skin it.
V: Alright any questions so far?
S4: What do you do with the skin after?
V: Good question, I keep them and preserve them. I strongly encourage you do that, but it is up to you. I can make a bag out of the stomach, people make ropes out of intestines, eat the heart and liver. I was raised to not waste any part of the animal.
S4: Will you eat the heart tonight?
V: If no one else wants to. But in order to do that, we need to get to it first. I need two people to hold it up so everyone can see what I am doing, you and you, each of you grab a front and back leg. Viking show the students how to gut the rabbit, pointing out each organ, and explaining what to do with each. She keeps the heart and liver.
V: I won't make you keep everything from this kill, this is about food, we don't need the pelt or stomach for that. But, now that it is gutted you can spit it and roast it over a fire. Viking shoves the rabbit on the stick and puts a student in charge of it while she retrieves Hatchet and the people who chickened out. I is about 11 p.m. now.
V: Ok the best way to stay safe in the wilderness is a big fire. Make sure you have plenty of firewood and tinder on hand. That way if it goes out in the night you don't have to struggle to find a starter. If you trust yourself, I would try and sleep in a tree. Strap yourself in, you are away from animals on the ground and have a higher vantage point. If not, build the fire up big and dig a small dip close to it. I would actually make a fire on both sides of your dip. This will keep any wildlife away. But since we still have zombies to worry about I would strongly suggest sleeping in a tree. Any questions?
Viking answers questions while people try pieces of the roasted rabbit. When everyone is done Viking tells everyone to get ready to leave and passes out some little flashlights.
V: Remember to douse your fire, it is best to cover it in dirt. Water just makes it steam. She scoops up dirt and focuses on putting out the fire.
V: Ok, I think that is enough for one night. Let's head back. We can follow the stream out and retrace our steps from there.
[End of video]
So that was my first day of class. I don't understand why people would sign up for a wilderness survival class if they can't handle animals dying. I really don't. I don't know what my classes tomorrow will be about. If you have any requests let me know. I don't think I will be able to do an early morning class, I have a medical meeting.
(OoC:) Sorry if the formatting sucks, this is my first time doing anything like this.
